10th & 111h February

So what’s up with Bentota Beach and surfing? Today I was looking for surf rentals at the Bentota Beach. We went there by Tuk Tuk cause it was not reachable by foot from our hotel.

The beach was really deserted. I guess it’s about 4 km long and we met there about 20 people in total strolling around. So not too much going on there. We saw 3 surfshacks whith crazy prices: 1000 rupees for an hour rent compared to 300 in Weligama at the South Coast, so WTF. They have a mini break there but it was too less even for me to spent 1000 rupees for rent there today. So maybe tomorrow.

Walked along and checked out one super fance hotel called palms, with table tennis on the terrace overlooking the whole Bentota beach, and also a pool with a magnificant view over bentota beach. But way out of our league, haha.

So after knowing what’s going on at Bentota beach -> almost nothing. We spent the rest of the day in our fancy hotel.

11th February.

Weather looked good, and waves a bit more stronger. We checked out the beach restaurant right next to our hotel and then did some snorkeling. Quite nice fish even some bigger ones up to 50 cm were visible, and a few swarms. Which are just amazing to watch 🙂

In the afternoon we went back to Bentota beach. And there were  even some surfers in the water.

So grabbed a board and joindd them from 5-6 pm.

After 45 minutes I realized that they have the go pro mount on it. So I ran back to get our gopro on and got 15 minites left to try things. Unfortunately i couldnt catch any more good waves. But still it was very cool there. Besides the steep price of 1000 rupees it is quite good for beginners like me to get in the setup. You can almost walk till there. And catch some 1- 1 1/2 m green waves easily. Even I got 2 and surfed them for a bit. White water surfing works also reall nice there. So great for beginners. Plus the locals were super friendly and helpfull.
