First of all Bentota and the the other small cities up and down along the west coast of Sri Lanka close to the capital Colombo are more expensive then other places in the country.
I guess because they are really easy to reach from Colombo, so if you travel there by plane you just have to add about 1h to reach your final destination.
We decided to check out Bentota cause it was so close to Colombo and so we could be fast at the airport when we travel home, plus the Bentota beach should be also quite nice.
After traveling mostly at the south coast we were a bit shocked by the prices which where almost twice as high for food and drinks at restaurants. So we could also stay at our a bit more fancy hotel – the Cinnamon Bey for the last 3 days.
The plan was to check out the surrounding beaches and also see if we can find some surf around here 🙂
So if you also visit Bentota look for special deals on Booking.com, if you are lucky like we have been you can get a fancy 4 star hotel for half price.
And another tip: try to buy every souvenir already on your trip cause like said before, Bentota is way more expensive. You can skip also the markets cause there is nothing you haven’t seen already and you guessed it, it’s more expensive than anywhere else in Sri Lanka.
The beach is really long and quite nice, but tuk tuks and food and drinks cost really almost twice as much as everywhere else we have been in Sri Lanka.
