Diving Day 1: After just a short introduction in theory what we will do next, we walked to the near beach. Our heavy gear was transported by the Diving School Tuk Tuk and after setting up our equipment we walked into the shallow water and had our first practical lesson.
So here we are with our first real diving lesson, in the open water. Tough shit, controlled breathing is not as easy as it sounds under water. Since your early childhood you try to hold your breath under water and now suddenly you should breathe slowly and calm 🙂 But after a few minutes it works quite well and even the practice to get rid of water inside your goggles works. A few short moments of panic are part of the game, I guess. When you try to reach for the Octopus (second back up air from your buddy) and cannot reach it, you have to control yourself to stay calm. A good thing is that you are just 1 m below and can get to the surface in a second.
Changing accommodation
After two almost sleepless nights cause of the road traffic we knew we had to move somewhere else to finally enjoy our holiday.
Another fact in our decission process was that we already knew that the Mirissa beach is way more nicer than Weligama, especially for hanging out at the beach and swimming. We checked out the new room in Mirissa first and then went back to Weligama to bring the sad news for our host. We tried to settle things with the owner and ask if he would charge us just for the 2 nights and not for the full 5 days we had reserved the room. Unfortunately he didn’t like our idea and was quite angry. He charged the full price but we left anyway. There was no way, that we stay 3 more nights without decent sleep. The owner thought it it s a personal thing, but the fact was just that we couldn’t sleep there cause the traffic was too loud (and the internet was working on very odd times or dead slow). We tried to escape from the big city noise in our holiday but now we had the same shit for two nights and could barely sleep, that was just too much.
If you are interested in staying in Mirissa, here’s the shortcut.
Mirissa at night
So Mirissa it was. Our new stay was quite cool from the beginning. Fresh fruit juice and a cold towel for you face (ayurveda style) to feel like home. The internet was working (not like in the guesthouse before) and the room was super quiet.
For our supper we checked out the beach restaurants.
Mirissa has a quite decent variety. We decided to pick a fancy looking one.
And the food was great, we have a new favorite called „Seafood kotu rothi”. The seafood plate was a total ripoff (3x the price of the seafood rothi) but the ingredients of the rothi tasted better than the 4 big shrips and the small tuna piece from the seafood platter.
So finally we are happy with our stay 🙂
